Here’s a little secret about myself for some of you. Growing up, I played the piano at my church. My baptist church. I would even sing! (Gasp!! I know!!) Don’t tell my current church staff, ok?? Deal. That’s actually how I met my then-boyfriend-now-husband, but I’ll save that story for another day.

Anyway, back to this post. Right. I played in my church. Good ol’ southern gospel hymns. You just can’t beat them. They still rattle around in my heart and sometimes even out of my piano (gee, I hope the neighbors can’t hear!), and recently, out of my sketchbook. So I decided to play around with it a bit and look what happened!

A new print for my DoodleSwirl shop on Etsy! Go on, I’ll wait here…

I really had fun with it and I have a few other hymns in mind, but I’d love to hear from you. Does anyone have a favorite hymn? Wouldn’t it be fun to have a whole collection of “oldies but goodies”!?

Be blessed!

  1. Hello! I’m so glad I stopped by here. LOVE THIS!! How pretty it is in color but also in b/w and so happy. This is my first time with AEDM and I’m making my first prayer journal so this really helped me. I want to write the songs I love too and some scriptures and just writing out my prayers then putting paint over it. I’m kinda new at the church thing and am starting to read the bible so it’s a nice way to learn and paint at the same time. My favorite song today is Praise you with the dance, I did a page for it and will show soon on AEDM.
Sorry for writing so much, was just excited to see this and be inspired! Thanks so much and please keep this up. I love getting songs out to paper too and you did a beautiful job with yours.
Oh and Amazing Grace is always always a favorite and makes me cry each time. Have a good night.

    1. Dawn, thank you for your sweet words and for stopping by! I love your plan to incorporate your prayer journal with your art. I pray that will be so very fulfilling for your spiritual journey. I look forward to seeing your art on AEDM! (And yes, Amazing Grace is definitely a favorite of mine too!). God bless!
